Pinboards

Named collections you file clips into by hand. Two things make them more than folders: nothing in a pinboard is ever auto-deleted, and a board can collect every copy you make while you research something.

How do I make a pinboard?

Right from the popup, at the moment you decide you want one.

  1. Click the + at the end of the filter strip, after your last board.
  2. Type a name and press Return. The board is made and opened straight away.
  3. Press Esc, or click away, to give up without making one.

How do I put a clip on a board?

  1. Right-click the clip, in the popup or in All Clips.
  2. Choose Add to Pinboard and pick the board.

How do I file several clips at once?

Select them first: hold a clip, or right-click it and choose Select, then tap the rest. Click Add to Board at the bottom (it shows how many, like Add 3 to Board) and pick a board, or New Board to make one for them.

How do I collect everything I copy into one board?

This is the one worth knowing about. Turn it on at the start of a research session and every copy files itself.

  1. Right-click the board and choose Save new copies here.
  2. Copy as normal. Everything lands on that board automatically.
  3. A red dot marks whichever board is collecting, so you cannot forget it is on.
  4. Right-click it again and choose Stop saving here when you are done.

Will a big pinboard push out my recent copies?

No, and this is deliberate. Pinboard clips are excluded from your history limit entirely and are never auto-deleted.

So a board holding two hundred references cannot squeeze out the thing you copied a minute ago. Put anything you want to keep on a board and stop thinking about the limit.

How do I paste a whole board?

Right-click the board and paste it in order. Every clip on it goes out one after another, the same as a multi-select run. See Sequential Pasting.

Good to know

  • Boards appear as their own chips in the popup filter strip, after the type chips.
  • Right-click a board to rename it, delete it, or move it left or right. Deleting asks first, and lets you keep its clips or delete them with it.
  • In Settings, then Pinboards, drag a board by its handle to reorder. The top board shows first in the popup.
  • Typing the name of a board you already have just opens that board, rather than making a second one.
  • Rename and delete boards from Settings, then Pinboards, which also shows how many clips each holds.
