What formats does it handle?
| Type | What you get back |
|---|---|
| Text | Formatting preserved. Hold ⌥ to paste as plain text. |
| Links | The URL, plus the page title and preview picture. Link previews are on unless you switch them off. |
| Colors | A named colour, both a precise name like Sky Blue and a family like Blue. |
| Images | With dimensions, file size and original format. |
| SVG | Real vectors bigger than an icon: illustrations, logo lockups, exported frames. Copy from Figma, paste back as SVG rather than a screenshot. |
| Icons | Small, roughly square SVGs up to 512px. Colour icons count too. |
| Videos | With a thumbnail and duration. |
| Documents | The real file under its original name: PDF, Word, Excel, Pages, Keynote and more. |
How does it tell an icon from an SVG?
By size and shape, not colour. Anything up to 512px that is roughly square is an Icon. Anything larger is an SVG. So a colourful app icon lands in Icons, and a big one-colour illustration lands in SVG.
An .svg file copied in Finder is read as the real SVG too, not as the little preview picture Finder puts beside it.
Why did my link get filed as text?
Because the clipboard held more than the link. A URL is only treated as a link when the whole clipboard is that one URL, so a paragraph that merely mentions a link stays Text.
That is deliberate. The alternative files half your prose under Links and makes the filter useless.
How does it know which app or site something came from?
Every clip records the app it came from and shows that app’s icon on the tile.
For Safari and Chromium browsers it goes further and records the actual site, so a colour grabbed while Dribbble was open is tagged Dribbble rather than just Safari. That needs one-time Automation permission per browser. Decline it and the clip is still captured with the app name.
Does it capture the same thing twice?
No. Tucket compares full bytes for images, so copying the same screenshot twice does not give you two tiles.
How much does it keep?
The last 50 clips to start with, adjustable from 25 to 1000 in Settings, then General, or Unlimited if you would rather be bounded only by disk.
Anything on a pinboard is excluded from that count and is never removed automatically.
Good to know
- PDFs show their actual first page as the preview, not a generic file icon, and open as a scrollable document.
- PNGs are stored byte-for-byte as you copied them, so colour profiles survive intact.
- Clips arriving from another Apple device via Universal Clipboard are attributed to Nearby Device. macOS says a clip came from elsewhere but never which device, and guessing iPhone would sometimes be wrong.
